A Dhaka court on Sunday scrapped bail plea filed by Deputy Inspector General of prisons Partha Gopal Bonik in a graft case. Partha’s lawyer Kamrul Islam pleaded for his bail. Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kazal, however opposed the plea. After hearing both the sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge KM Imrul Qayesh passed the order, scrapping bail plea of the accused.

Partha, who was working at Sylhet Central Jail, was shown arrested by ACC on July 28 as it recovered Taka 80 lakh from his North Green Road flat. “He did not declare the money in his income tax file, making us to believe it was amassed illegally,” ACC director Mohammad Yousuf said on that day.

Partha during his arrest, said the car he was using and is kept at the parking space owned by him, was actually belongs to his friend. Of the money, Partha said, Taka 30 lakh was given to him by his mother-in-law and 50 lakh was earned by him during his years in service. Meanwhile, the same court Sunday set October 20 for submitting probe report in the case. The court passed the order as the investigation officer failed to submit the report yesterday.
