An expatriate patient in Raujan has alleged discrepancies in two separate pathological tests for the same disease. The matter has created a lot of discussion in the area.
The victim, expatriate S. M. Yunuch Amin (42), a resident of Dabua Union in the upazila, said that in the morning on October 27, he gave blood for HBA1C test at Gahira JK Hospital in Raozan. After receiving the report that evening, he showed it to his personal physician, Associate Professor of Medicine Department of Chittagong Medical College Hospital, Dr. Md. Saidul Alam Rajib.
Dr. Rajib said that the report showed the patient's HBA1C value as 11.2%, while the normal range is 4.0 to 6.5%. He expressed surprise and said, "If the report is correct, the patient is not supposed to live this long."
Then he advised the patient to be re-tested. The Yunuch Amin underwent the same test again last Saturday at Epic Healthcare in the city. The report received on Sunday evening showed that his HbA1c level was 5.6%, which is completely normal.
The Epic Healthcare report was signed by Dr. Sanjida Mamun and biochemist Sourav Debnath. On the other hand, the report of Gahira JK Hospital was signed by Dr. Zaker Hossain.
Despite calling JK Hospital several times, it was not possible to contact any official.
The victim S. M. Yunuch Amin expressed his anger and said, “Where will the common people go if such wrong or fake reports are given? I want strict legal action to be taken against these.”
Copies of the two pathological reports are preserved with this reporter.
