Dhaka-Sikkim (India) direct bus service is ready to be launched by the end of this month, bringing an end to the lengthy wait of the tourism lovers of both the countries. After introducing successful direct bus services to Shilong, Agartola, Kolkata and Shiliguri, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has decided to introduce the new bus service connecting Sikkim by road from the capital city.

Officials concerned said Shaymoly Paribahan, one of the top passenger bus operators of the country, has been selected to operate the tourist buses services in Dhaka-Sikkim route. Contacted, BRTC Chairman Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan told Bangladesh Post, “For the interest of both the countries, feasibility study to introduce the service is being conducted at present. BRTC has primarily decided to use existing route which means after leaving Dhaka the bus would reach Sikkim through Shiliguri.”

“A team of 50 people will leave Dhaka on a Shamoly Paribahan bus in the first trip on the route,” he added. Sources said at present, Shamoly Paribahan is operating bus services under BRTC banner from Dhaka to four different cities in India. These are Dhaka-Kolkata- Dhaka, Dhaka-Shilong- Gohati, Kolkata- Dhaka- Agartola. Mentionable, after the Indian authorities opened Sikkim for Bangladeshi tourists several years ago, a good number of Bangladeshi tourists throng the popular tourist city every year.
