Uzbekistan is keen to invest in Bangladesh in the potential sectors including Textile industry. Direct air connectivity between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan will further boost the bilateral relations and investment opportunities between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, said Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Friday.
“Other potential sectors like RMG, Leather, Jute, and Pharmaceutical industries of Bangladesh are the areas of attraction of Uzbekistan in terms of building business to business collaboration and government to government collaboration between the two countries”, Commerce Minister added.
He made the remarks while briefing newsmen after the inaugural session of the 3rd Intergovernmental Commission Meeting on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan at the InterContinental Hotel, Dhaka.
Minister said both the parties agreed to develop a future trade relations through private sector led growth, encouraging mutual investment and addressing trade barriers for greater benefits of the two countries.
The meeting discussed to enhance mutual cooperation in various areas such as Trade and Economic Cooperation, Cooperation in Textile, RMG, Agriculture, Food and Fruit sectors, pharmaceutical industry, leather and footwear, tourism and transportation.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi led the Bangladesh Side in the meeting while other members of Bangladesh Delegation include Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Md. Sirajul Islam, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Secretary Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mokammel Hossain, Secretary, Ministry of Textile and Jute, Md. Abdur Rouf.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minster of Investment and Foreign Trade, Jamshid Khodjaev led the Uzbekistak part in the meeting. Uzbek side requested for enhanced collaboration to promote technology transfer, skill development and training activities in the textile sector. It also emphasized to collaborate in areas of high fashion design, fashion accessories, fashion garments of the textile sector. Both sides noted the importance to restore direct flights “Dhaka-Tashkent-Dhaka’ and agreed to study the possibilities of code-sharing agreement between Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways JSC.
