State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said integrated technical and financial cooperation would contribute to the massive expansion of renewable energy. The cooperation of the developed countries is needed in evaluating renewable energy resources.
It is also necessary to work together to increase the capacity of the public and private sectors.
The state minister was virtually speaking at the side event- "Clean Power and Green Grids" after attending the inaugural function of the “ Third Ministerial Meeting of the COP26 Energy Transition council (CoP26 ETC)” on Tuesday.
Nasrul Hamid also said Bangladesh wants to work together with all to promote clean energy. The amount of coal in power generation is decreasing. So far, 10 coal-fired power plants having total capacity of 8451 MW of electricity have been cancelled.
It needs new technology that requires less land for installation of solar system. The desired results can be achieved with the technical and financial support of experienced countries and the Energy Transition Council to get quality electricity by mapping offshore wind and marine fuels.
The State Minister further said that the cooperation of Energy Transition Council in research on waste power, wind power, power from ocean energy etc. would be welcomed. With the initial investment, a lot of electricity from these sources can be added to the national grid. At least the project can be taken on a pilot basis.
One of the main goals of the COP26 Energy Transition Council (COP26 ETC) is to accelerate energy transitions by bringing together global leadership, and to facilitate financing for clean energy. ETC focus countries are - Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Vietnam, South Africa.
Damilola Ogunbiyi, vice-president of CoP26 ETC, presided over the virtual event. Among others, Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif, Egypt's Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Dr. Mohamed Shaker El-Markabi, Goddy Jedy Agba, State Minister for Power and Energy of Nigeria, Dr Sinava Souphanouvong, Deputy Minister for Energy and Mines of Laos, were also spoke at the event.
