Dhaka secures position amid global higher edn hubs

In its latest release, the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings for 2024 spotlight the 160 premier cities world-wide for pursuing higher education. Topping this prestigious list in London, home to 18 universities that have earned their place among the world's best. 

Notably, Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, emerges as a noteworthy destination for university students seeking top-tier education.

QS, a British firm specializing in the evaluation of higher education institutions worldwide, regularly publishes diverse rankings of the world's leading universities. Dhaka's inclusion in the esteemed roster of the best cities for higher education marks it as a commendable hub within the global academic landscape. 

However, it is noteworthy that Dhaka stands as the sole representative from Bangladesh on this list.

The QS Best Student Cities list, often considered a benchmark for prospective international students, ranks Tokyo, Japan, and Seoul, South Korea, as the second and third-best cities, respectively. Dhaka claims the 149th position on the global list, securing the 43rd spot among 49 Asian cities with a score of 44.1.

Dhaka boasts a multitude of higher education institutions, encompassing both public and private universities, along with medical colleges. Notable institutions like Dhaka University and BUET have achieved recognition in various global rankings at different points in time.

The selection of destinations for international higher education is guided by factors such as academic facilities, quality of life, university reputation, accommodation costs, and employment opportunities. 

The QS Best Student Cities ranking meticulously evaluates cities based on six criteria: university ranking, student mix, desirability, employer activity, affordability, and student views.

The top 10 cities in the QS Best Student Cities ranking for 2024 are as follows: 1. London, UK, with a perfect score of 100, 2. Tokyo, Japan, securing second place with a score of 98, 3. Seoul, South Korea, clinching the third position with a score of 97.6, 4. 

Melbourne, Australia, scored 97.3, 5. Munich, Germany, holds the fifth spot with a score of 97.1, 6. Paris, France, achieving a score of 96.3, 7. Sydney, Australia, securing the seventh position with a score of 96.2, 8. 

Berlin, Germany, with a score of 95, 9. Zurich, Switzerland, also scored 95, and 10. Boston, USA, rounding up the top 10 with a score of 92.3.

Dhaka's recognition on the global stage underscores its appeal as an emerging educational hub for students seeking a diverse and enriching academic experience.
