For the second time, the 'Citizen Information Collection 2021’  started in the capital from Monday and it will continue till February 15 with the aim of updating the information of all citizens living in the Dhaka metropolitan area.

The Citizen Information Management System (CIMS) software is already in the process of storing and collecting information about the citizens living in the capital including the owners, tenants of houses and establishments in the Dhaka metropolitan area for the purpose of crime prevention and public safety provisions.

DMP's Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Walid Hossain on Monday told the Bangladesh Post that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is conducting data entry activities of all house owners and tenants by dividing them into 306 bits through bit policing.

However, citizen information collection activities started from 2016 with the aim of collecting, storing and managing the information of the citizens living in the metropolis as part of various data collection for crime management.

Earlier, a meeting was held at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters on Sunday, presided over by DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam. He called upon all the citizens in the capital to provide information to help the bit officers of the concerned police stations to ensure the safety of the city dwellers.

According to the DMP, many tenants from Dhaka metropolis left Dhaka city due to the coronavirus situation. In many cases, bachelor's (unmarried) homes have been rented out instead of families.

Recently, the DMP has arrested a number of criminals. No information about them was found in the Citizen Information Management System. The process of gathering citizen information plays a helpful role as a crime prevention measure.

Apart from that, if any crime is committed, the mystery of the incident can be easily revealed by using citizen information.

In this year's 'Citizen Information Collection', information of new tenants and landlords will be collected in each bit. In that case, the information of the tenants who have changed their homes will be updated.

The names of professional killers, armed terrorists, robbers, thieves, snatchers, drug offenders, women molesters, involved in militancy and suspects, will be updated in each bit.

Police said they want landlords to provide information to bit officers about suspects, temporary employees and security guards.

The Citizen Information Management System (CIMS) has a unique index number for each citizen. If it searches with that number, there is a system to know the detailed information of the desired citizen.
