Dhaka and other parts of the country’s central region will experience a pipeline cooking gas supply crisis during the Eid festival holidays, officials said.

The officials also said that the gas supply crisis is likely to last up to six days in Dhaka, Narsingdi, Narayanganj, Manikganj, Gazipur and Tangail. The crisis would occur as two gas fields will undergo maintenance and repairs, they said.

According to Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL), the compressor at Ashuganj was undergoing maintenance and repairs from Monday morning to until night of May 5 as part of efforts to increase the capacity of the national grid.

At this time, customers at Elenga, Tangail, Joydevpur, Dhanua, Aminbazar, Ashulia, Savar, Manikganj, Madhabadi, Bhulta, Araihazar, Tarabo and its adjacent areas may experience low pressure of cooking gas supply.

Supply from Bibiyana and Bangura gas fields will totally stop or partially on the Eid day and the day after.

An official said the pressure will go down or there will be no gas for sometime. This won’t happen in all the areas at a time. But in general, supply will be disrupted.

Ali Iqbal Mohammad Nurullah, Managing Director of TGTDCL, said “If Eid is on the May, 14, it will be under pressure till the day after Eid, or one more day. We will try to finish the work quickly.”

According to Petrobangla, the gas fields in the country produced 3,205 million cubic feet gas on May 9. The production included 1,339 mmcf from Bibiyana and 84 mmcf from Bangura.
