Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Dhaka- OIC Youth Capital 2020 on July 27 in a virtual event which will also be attended by international and national dignitaries and more than 150 youth representatives from the OIC member states and beyond.

The launching ceremony of this grand occasion was originally designed to be held in Dhaka with the presence of state level dignitaries, including the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and influential youths from all over the world on April 12.

Now, in the Covid-19 new normal- Dhaka OIC Youth Capital 2020 will be launched virtually on July 27, which will be followed by the “Resilient Youth Leadership Summit” on 27-28 July.

State minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam and State minister for youth and sports Zahid Ahsan Russell made those comments at a virtual press conference on Saturday. A director general of the foreign ministry Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khastagir moderated the briefing.

This year’s celebrations come at a time when the whole world is fighting one common enemy, the Covid-19, in its full glare.

The theme of the Dhaka-OIC Youth Capital 2020 is “Parity and Prosperity: For a Resilient Future”.

The whole Dhaka-OIC Youth Capital 2020 program will be promoted online and social media through a platform named Youth for Global Bangladesh (Y4GBD).

In order to celebrate Dhaka-OIC Youth Capital 2020 and to create a permanent platform to engage celebrated youths across the globe to promote the interest of Bangladesh, the Youth for Global Bangladesh (Y4GBD) is basically initiated.

This platform will be used as a tool for engaging youth for business, ideas & innovation, research and development as well as public diplomacy aiming at communicating influential youth leaders across the world to garner support for government’s strategic objectives at international platforms, according to the foreign ministry.

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the ICYF- Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum- an OIC affiliate Youth Organisation based in Istanbul operating across OIC Countries are organising the event.

Special guests include Minister of Culture and Sports of Qatar, Minister for Justice of the Gambia, Minister of State for Food Security of UAE, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, and OIC Secretary General, among others.

Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed, ICT Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, is expected to present the keynote on ‘Youth & Technology for Building Resilient Society’ at a session.

Earlier, Dhaka was announced as the ‘OIC Youth Capital 2020’ marking a significant recognition for the dynamic and determined leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government in the youth sector.

The Istanbul based Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), an entity affiliated to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), made this declaration on December 25 last year.

The selection of Dhaka as the “OIC Youth Capital 2020” will play a significant role to reflect a positive brand image of Bangladesh globally, especially among the youth, the foreign ministry said.

“This declaration of Dhaka as OIC Youth Capital 2020 is also a testimony of the overwhelming vitality of the more than 53 million youths of Bangladesh.”
