Dhaka Metrorail Extends operating time from Saturday

Published : 05 Jul 2023 10:26 PM

In a bid to enhance transportation options and cater to the growing needs of commuters, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has announced an extension of the Metrorail’s operation time by half an hour during the night.

The new schedule, set to commence from Saturday next, was recently announced through a notification posted on the DMTCL website.

The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Department, Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman, outlined the key details of the revised timetable. Starting from Saturday, two trains will depart from Agargaon station at 8:15 pm and 8:30 pm respectively.

These trains will transport passenger up to Uttara North Metrorail station, making stops at each of the two stations along the route.

It is important to note that passengers intending to utilize these extended services must be aware of certain ticketing requirements. Single journey tickets will not be valid for travel on these specific metro trains. Instead, commuters will need to make use of the MRT Pass or Rapid Pass to avail themselves of the extended running time during the designated hours.

This recent initiative by the DMTCL aims to provide more convenient and flexible commuting options for residents and visitors of Dhaka. By extending the Metrorail’s operational hours, the authorities hope to cater to the needs of individuals who may require transportation services during the later part of the evening. The move is expected to alleviate some of the pressure on the city’s existing transportation infrastructure and enhance the overall commuting experience for passengers.

As the extended running time comes into effect from July 8, commuters can now plan their journeys with the assurance of increased availability and accessibility of the Dhaka Metrorail service during the evening hours. The DMTCL encourages passengers to familiarize themselves with the revised schedule and ticketing requirements to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience.

The DMTCL continues to explore opportunities for further improvements and expansion of the Dhaka Metrorail system to meet the growing demands of the city’s residents.
