Dhaka Int'l Folk Fest underway

Dhaka International Folk Fest is the largest festival of folk music organized in Asia. The curtains went up at 6pm yesterday at the Army Stadium in the capital. The program started at 6pm till 12pm.
The festival began with performances by artistes of the dance troupes of Prema and Bhabna. They welcomed the audience with a variety of dances.
Then came the group of songs of Chveneburebi from Georgia.
Then Shah Alam Sarkar, a popular singer, appeared with a rich repertoire of Bengali folk songs.
India’s celebrated signer Daler Mehendi came onstage as a spectacle at the last performance. He is a vocalist, composer, lyricist altogether. His real name is Daler Singh.
He is credited with introducing Bhangra music worldwide. He is also a pop singer. The program was aired live by Maasranga TV from the Army Stadium.
