Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival concludes today

The 6th edition of the country’s first ever mobile-phone based filmmaking festival knowns as Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) which began on Friday ends today. The festival is being organised by Cinemascope, a film based apprenticeship program of ULAB. 

Each year the festival includes screening of films from around the world and choosing the best films for awards. Films are organised into three categories, i.e., Screening, Competition and One minute. This year 202 films have been submitted from 41 countries. 

The jury panel of DIMFF this year includes Devaki Bist from Nepal who is a journalist by profession but also known as a filmmaker. Another jury panelist, Sadia Khalid Reeti is a film critic and a writer. Arifur Rahman, the jury chair, is an independent film and documentary maker. The jury members have selected 39 films in the Screening category, 5 films in the One Minute category and 13 in the Competition category. 

The nominated films of this category are – The Conundrum, Distortion, Nostalgia, Sealed deal, Alive and Lily. The nominated films for the One Minute category are Flower Bag and All Winner.  The festival was inaugurated at the permanent campus of ULAB on Friday. Professor H M Jahirul Haque, Vice Chancellor of ULAB and Professor Jude William Genilo, Head of Media Studies and Journalism department of ULAB were present during the event. 

The closing ceremony will be held on the second day at Star Cineplex of Shimanto Shambhar. Chairman of Star Cineplex Mahbub Rahman Ruhel, filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Saimon and Professor Dr Geeti Ara Nasreen will be present at the event.
