The government has taken a number of initiatives for the development of the capital Dhaka and other areas of the country as well.

Apart from the mega projects such as Padma Bridge, Metro Rail and others, beautification of Dhaka and construction of wide and safe footpaths in the city have got priority despite coronavirus pandemic.

Considering the necessity of footpaths in the city, the authorities concerned have started constructing new footpaths and mordenising the old ones.

With an aim to build a pedestrian-friendly walkway in Dhaka Metropolitan area, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) has already proposed three-lane footpaths alongside different regional connectivity roads.

About the revised DAP, Rajuk town planner Ashraful Islam earlier told Bangladesh Post, “Dhaka is an overpopulated city where a plan implementation is very tough. Keeping all the matters in mind, we have made the draft to make Dhaka livable for all.”

General Secretary of Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP), Dr Adil Mohammad Khan, told Bangladesh Post, “The footpaths will be built at every possible place without demolishing any building of the city-dwellers. The footpaths will be widened in a planned way at those places where it is applicable.”
