Dhaka Dominators taste third win out of 10 encounters

Soumya Sarker and Mohammed Mithun scored a defiant 74 runs in the opening stand, as Dhaka Dominators defeated fortune Barisal by five wickets to taste their third win in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) cricket on Tuesday.

Held at the Sylhet Cricket Stadium, the Fortune Barisal elected to bat first after winning the toss and could manage a moderate total of 156 runs in stipulated 20 overs losing eight wickets.

But the Dhaka Dominators, who have been struggling for a long after winning their two matches earlier and suffered defeats in last seven matches in a row, had the comfortable win losing five wickets and seven balls to spare and managed six points from 10 outings.

On the other hands, Fortune Barisal, who have been following very closely the table toppers Sylhet Strikers, had every chance to close the gap of points with them.

But after losing the match to Dhaka, now they are four points behind to Sylhet Strikers with 12 points from nine matches, though still they are on second position playing one match less than Sylhet.

However, the formidable Barisal began the innings with positive ways with the opening stands scored 42 runs in the first six overs power play.

But Soumya Sarker made the first breakthrough on 42 on the scorecard with taking the wicket of opener Saif Hassan (15 off 19 balls).

Dhaka Dominators bowlers, looked locate the perfect line and length of bowling to get better the formidable Barisal’s batters smashing up the middle order.   

Barisal lost four batters including the inform and danger-man Shakib Al Hassan went after adding just 50 runs including the opener Anamul Haque, who was very much steady to watch four batters were leaving the pitch in regular interval.

Anamul was the highest scorer with 42 from 35 deliveries hitting five fours and two over-boundaries.

After being reducing to 92 by 14 overs, a rapid 39 off 27 balls from veteran Mahmudullah Riyad accompanied by Salman Hossain and Karin Janat gave Barisal a fighting score of 156 runs.

In reply, Dhaka Dominators, faced their chase to perfection and never let the required rate run away from them after an encouraging 74 runs in opening partnership and could not see any big trouble but to lose three wickets (at the middle). Abdullah Mamun, Nashir Hossain (unbeaten) and Alex Blake made the task easier to win the match before being got out.

Dhaka now moved into fifth place on the table, just outside of the automatic qualification zone to play semifinal, with three matches left to play.
