Dhaka CMM court introduces wheelchair facility for sick, disabled accused

From now on, sick and physically disabled accused appearing at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka will have access to wheelchair facilities.

On Wednesday (May 28) at 9:30 AM, Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mostafizur Rahman handed over three wheelchairs to the CMM court’s lockup.

Present at the event were DMP Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Md Tarek Zubair, Metropolitan Magistrates Md Saifuzzaman, Md Sefat Ullah, Md Minhazur Rahman, DMP’s ADC (Admin-Prosecution) Main Uddin Chowdhury, AC (Prosecution) Md Malik Nazmul Haider, AC (Admin-Prosecution) Syed Md Shahidul Islam, as well as police personnel from the prosecution division and senior officials from the judiciary.

Explaining the initiative, CMM Mostafizur Rahman said that providing wheelchairs will significantly ease the process of presenting sick and disabled accused before the court, thereby upholding international human rights and fundamental freedoms.

DC (Prosecution) Md Tarek Zubair described the wheelchair service as a milestone in ensuring full policing services in court. He also reaffirmed the DMP’s commitment to guaranteeing all human rights-related services in the future.
