Dhaka city polls most peaceful election in subcontinent

Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud has said, the recently held Dhaka City Corporation elections were the best and most peaceful election in the subcontinent. There was no chaos at the polling centres and no incident of rigging. It was possible due to casting of votes through EVM because in EVM, there is no scope to cast one's vote by another person.

Information Minister, also Joint General Secretary of AL was speaking as the chief guest at the meeting of representatives of Rajshahi district AL at district Shilpakala auditorium on Thursday noon. He further mentioned, EVM itself works as an agent of a political party. Due to problems with the finger print, the Chief Election Commissioner himself fell in awakward situation during casting his vote. But, BNP was spreading propaganda regarding EVM.

 In fact, BNP is always afraid with the technology. In this connection, he informed, during the rule of BNP, Bangladesh was offered the sub-marine cables free of cost but the then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia had said, all secret information of Bangladesh will be leaked if the country is connected with submarine cables.

Hasan Mahmud added, after participating the elections of DCC, BNP had said, it was a part of their movement. Now, movement of BNP is meant for arsoning, burning and clashes. By being panicky of BNP retaliation, many people did not visit the polling centres. Still, the number of voters was more than the elections of USA. He also thanked the Election Commission for managing such a nice election.

He also called the party leaders to evaluate the devoted AL leaders. He warned that the leaders and activists of BNP who joined AL to save their lives should not be offered the party posts. Even, those who participated the last elections as the rebel candidatesm should not be given the posts of the President and the General Secretary of any unit.

Presided over by Meraj Uddin Mollah, President of AL, Rajshahi distruct, the function was addressed by SM Kamal Hossain, Organising Secretary in charge of Rajshahi divisional AL as the chief speaker. Dr. Rokeya Sultana, Secretary of Health and Population Affairs of AL, Nurul Islam Thandu, Executive Members of AL, Begum Akhter Jahan MP, Dr. Merina Jahan Kobita, Ayen Uddin MP, Dr. Monsur Rahman MP, Engineer Enamul Haque MP and Adiba Anjum Meeta MP attended the function as special guests.
