Air pollution in Dhaka city increased 17 percent in 2020, compared to that in 2019.

The average value in the sensitive areas lessened 0.8 percent last year compared to that in the previous year.

As found, the most polluted area in the capital is Elephant Road while Taj Mahal Road in Mohammadpur is the least polluted. New Market's Main Gate and Tejgaon Industrial Area have been named among the most polluted areas.  On the other hand, Agargaon Children's Hospital and Pallabi D Block have been listed as the least polluted. This information was provided at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU), jointly organized by Stamford University Bangladesh and Bangladesh Environmental Movement (BAPA) at the Nasrul Hamid Auditorium yesterday.

On the occasion of publishing the results of Stamford Atmospheric Pollution Study Center (CAPS) titled 'Air Pollution Levels of 70 Places in Dhaka City', the director of the organization Prof. Ahmed Kamruzzaman Majumder addressed the conference.

According to a recent study by CAPS, unplanned road digging and construction account for 30 percent of the pollution, 29 percent for brick kilns and factories, 15 percent for vehicle exhaust fumes, 10 percent for inland air pollution and 9 percent for household and cooking stoves.
