Amid a surge in infections from new sub-variants of Covid-19 in neighbouring India and some other countries, Bangladesh's Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday issued a travel advisory urging citizens to avoid non-essential travel to India.
The advisory, issued by the Communicable Disease Control (CDC) unit of the DGHS highlighted the increasing spread of COVID-19 sub-variants such as Omicron LF.7, XFG, JN-1, and NB 1.8.1 in the region.
To mitigate this risk of transmission to Bangladesh through international travellers, the DGHS has instructed all land, air, and sea ports in Bangladesh to enhance health screening and surveillance at International Health Regulations (IHR) desks.
