Development in Ctg means development of the country: CCC Mayor

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said that the development of Chittagong is most important for building a better Bangladesh in the future. 

Our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has realized this and is keeping a watchful eye on the overall development of Chittagong.  The projects and ongoing work through CCC must be done with sincerity and dedication.  

The CCC has three main tasks - cleaning the city, lighting and renovating roads.  That's why city dwellers pay taxes to CCC. 

So these basic tasks should not be neglected in any way. 

Necessary action will be taken against them if any negligence is observed.

He was speaking in the 13th general meeting of the 6th CCC council at the KB AbduchChattar auditorium ofOld Nagar Bhaban on Sunday morning.

GolamMorshedwere present on the occasion.

  CCC mayor said waterlogging is a major problem for city dwellers.  To solve this problem, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given the responsibility to Chittagong Development Authority to implement mega projects worth around 6.5 thousand crore.  However, this problem has not been resolved even after the CCC requested to remove the canals and drains which have been filled in the way of implementation of this project.  They promised to clear the filled canals by April.  We hope that the project implementing agencies will keep their word.  If they fail, the CCC will not accept the suffering of the city dwellers in waterlogging and waterlogging under any circumstances.  He made it clear that the canals that have been filled since April will have to be cleared whether the work of the guide wall is completed or not.

  Regarding the clean-up activities, he said that the CCC has assigned 6 officers in 6 zones to speed up the clean-up activities.  The zone head and area supervisor will be in charge through supervision.  He said action would be taken against them if any negligence was observed in it.

   He said a separate cell has been set up to kill the mosquitoes.  He directed the officials of the concerned department to take special surveillance measures to ensure that the spraying work is being done properly.

  Work is underway on 36 canals under the city's mega project.  Mayor directed the engineering department to identify the location of the remaining 21 canals and submit it in the form of a report.  He also mentioned that there is a shortage of excavators, drum trucks and manpower in the canals and ditches in the city.  Necessary manpower will be provided through hiring and outsourcing of excavators and drum trucks to solve this problem.

   He said that adequate illumination is not being observed in many wards yet.  Where there are no poles, sheds, old poles, sheds should be used for illumination.  He urged the chief executive officer to form a committee to investigate the poisoning of old power poles.

  Instructed the officers of the concerned department to prepare a list of vehicles that are in operation, obsolete and repairable among the vehicles of the City Corporation.

  He directed to prepare a report of those who have set up billboards and business establishments in violation of the agreement in the name of beautification and submit it in the form of a report within 7 days.
