Speaker inaugurates ‘Bangladesh-India Friendship Dialogue’ in Cox’s Bazaar

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said that development of Bangladesh and India has been continued due to the deep friendship. Speaking on several successful India-Bangladesh agreements, including the Bangabandhu-Indra Gandhi treaty, the Speaker called for increasing the duty-free export of Bangladeshi products to India.

She said these at the inaugural ceremony of Bangladesh-India Friendship Dialogue in Cox Bazaar on Friday. She inaugurated the two-day dialogue. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Md. Shahriar Alam chaired the inaugural session. The dialogue will cover a wide range of issues like trade and investment, connectivity, technology, energy, regional security, extremism and sustainable development among others. The dialogue aims to draw from learning and experiences in these sectors between India and Bangladesh. Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr Abdul Momen will participate in the final day of the dialogue.

A number of academicians, lawmakers and foreign policy experts from India and Bangladesh including National General Secretary of BJP Ram Madhav, Former Union Minister M.J. Akbar, Finance Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma, India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das are participating in the event.

The event is being organized jointly by the India Foundation and Bangladesh Foundation for Regional Studies. The last session of the Bangladesh-India Friendship Dialogue was held at Guwahati in July, 2017. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said the relationship between Bangladesh and India is very deep and historic. This relationship will be stronger in the future. During the Great War, India stood by our side, responding to the call of Bangabandhu.
