Many developed countries conduct exams only once every year. Less number of tests does not mean devaluation, said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni.
“Students need to be skilled in humanities and other subjects. Skills even increase with less exams. Therefore, we must work towards achieving that goal during the pandemic,” she said.
She made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a function marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence at Kakina Uttar Bangla College in Kaliganjupazila of Lalmonirhat on Sunday.
Dipu Moni said,“It is not possible to nationalise all the secondary schools without research. If the research yields positive results, educational institutes will be nationalised based on financial capacity. The main goal of the government is to improve the quality of education. Sheikh Hasina’s government is an education friendly government.”
She said that the dropout rate had come down a lot now.
“We are working to improve the quality of education. We want students to be skilled in all subjects and build them as skilled and good human beings. We are working to create Sonar manush (great human beings), the way Bangabandhu wanted,” she added.
She also said that during the Covid-19 crisis, two major public exams were held under short syllabus.
“In continuation of that SSC and HSC examinations of 2023 will also be taken in short syllabus. This will reduce the pressure of exams on students. They will be able to take part in the test with a cheerful mind set.” she said.
The education minister mentioned that according to the policy, the eligible institutes will be included in the MPO without any recommendation and those fail to meet the conditions of the policy will not be included in the MPO under any circumstances.
Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed presided over the function. National University Vice-chancellor Prof Mashiur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Abu Jafar, District Council Chairman Advocate Matiar Rahman also spoke during this time.
Earlier in the morning on Sunday, the Education Minister and Social Welfare Minister came to Lalmonirhat on a one-day visit and later left for Hajee Danesh Science and Technology Universityin Dinajpur.
