The 30th International Day of Persons with Disabilities and 23rd National Day of Persons with Disabilities were celebrated at Chattogram University (CU) under the theme- 'Leadership and Participation of Persons with Disabilities'.
A discussion meeting was held at CU Library auditorium on Sunday afternoon at the initiative of Disabled Students Society Chattogram University (DISSCO).
Chattogram University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Shirin Akhter was present at the programme as the chief guest. CU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Benu Kumar Dey, Registrar (Acting) Prof SM Monirul Hasan, Proctor (Acting) Dr Shahidul Islam were also present there as special guests.
CU VC said that the DISSCO members of different departments of Chattogram University are continuing their educational activities with the special facilities provided by the university like students. DISSCO members need to play a vital role in the development of the country by developing their inner strength by harnessing every moment of their education life being aware of their rights.
She called upon various institutions, organisations and individuals to involve the disabled students in the mainstream of the society by enabling them through appropriate training in various fields and to utilise them to the best of their ability.
CU VC presented the crest of honor to the members of the voluntary organisation Third Eye in recognition of their annual work.
Former President of DISSCO Sajjad Hossain Saju presided over the function. Third Eye Chief Coordinator Sabira Ahmed Sara and DISSCO Member Shihab Biswas conducted the event. Assistant Professor of the Sociology Department of CU, DISSCO Adviser Muhammad Shoaib Uddin Haider and DISSCO Executive Member Liton Chandra Nath spoke at the programme. Voluntary organisation Third Eye and Friends Council DISSCO were in overall cooperation in organising the event.
