A group of students of Jagannath University (JuU) on Saturday staged demonstration demanding permanent expulsion of a student of the university for making derogatory remarks about Islam and Prophet Mohammed.

The protest came a day after screen shots of Facebook comments against Islam and Prophet Hazrat Mohammed (SM) made by a 3rd-year student Tithy Sarker went viral drawing outcry from the netizens.

Several hundreds of students under the banner of ‘“General Students of Jagannath University” brought out a protest procession in front of JnU Central Mosque and paraded the campus before ending it at Shanto Chattor.

They also formed a human chain pressing home their demand.

Protesters threatened for tougher movement if the student facing allegation is expelled from the university permanently for destroying religious harmony in the country.

Tithy Sarker, a student of Zoology department, is also the convenor of World Hindu Struggle Council, JnU unit and office secretary of Students Protection Council, JnU unit.

The Students Rights Council suspended her temporarily following the allegation.

On Friday, Tithy Sarker filed a general diary with Pallabi Police Station and sought police protection stating that her Facebook account was hacked and hackers made the derogatory comments to tarnish her image.
