The Department of Fisheries conducted a special drive in Raojan to protect the Halda River's natural fish breeding grounds. The drive was led by Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Tofazzal Hossain Fahim and lasted from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sunday.
The drive was assisted by the River Police and Halda guards. During the operation across various points of the river from the Magdhai Sluice Gate to the Kalurghat Bridge, approximately 6,000 metres of charghera (fixed) and floating nets, along with 9 hooks, were seized.
Later, at 5:00 PM, the seized nets and hooks were burned and destroyed in the premises of the temporary River Police camp on the Halda River.
Regarding the drive, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Tofazzal Hossain Fahim said, "The Halda River is Bangladesh's only natural fish breeding ground. We are always on high alert to protect the mother fish and biodiversity of this river. Regular drives against the use of illegal fishing equipment will continue."
