Johnny Depp is poised to make his return to acting with a brand-new film. The actor, who began his career in the 1984 Wes Craven horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, has had a career that spans nearly 100 titles, many of which were made in collaboration with director Tim Burton, including Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, which earned him one of his three Oscar nominations.
He has also had experience with several major franchise, including playing the lead role of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean and portraying the dark wizard Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and its sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
His future in the industry became complicated when Depp was embroiled in a highly publicized and widely debated court battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard. After she accused him of domestic abuse, he accused her in turn of fabricating those allegations, saying that the abuse was actually performed by Heard.
He later sued her for defamation in 2019 as the controversy around him lost him several important gigs, including the third Fantastic Beasts film, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which recast Grindelwald with Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen. The trial ended in June of this year, with the judge ruling in Depp's favor.
Depp is now poised to begin work on his next big project. The film, which is titled La Favorite, is ready to begin shooting in France this Summer.
