Dengue declines in cities, surges in dists: Maleque

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said that most of the deaths from dengue infection are taking place due to patient’s delay in treatment.

“Each death is painful. But there is nothing to do if patients do not receive treatment timely,” he said at an event of handing over 20,000 dengue testing kits gifted by Sinovac Biotech of China on Monday.

Officials of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka and Sinovac handed over the dengue test kits to the Health Minister.

Zahid Maleque said that there is no shortcoming of treatment for the dengue patients. There is no shortage of saline in public hospitals. Dengue has declined in city corporation areas, but increased in district towns, he added.

He also said that the dengue will not decline unless mosquito reduces. But there is dearth of cleanliness in those areas from where Aedes mosquito is spreading. The medicine being used for eradicating mosquitoes should be up to the mark, he added.

The health minister said that dengue prevention work should be accomplished round the year. He added that the city corporation will have to take the action. But no work will be fruitful after the increase of mosquito.
