Dengue cases surge in Chattogram

At a time when the corona virus is on the rise in Chattogram, dengue has come as a new terror to the residents of the port city due to unbearable spread of mosquitoes in the city day by day. 

Dengue is another deadly disease peeking out of the corona pandemic. Dengue virus creates havoc in the city whenever it finds the time to be opportune every year.

Dengue patients have started slowly being admitted to the city hospitals. As per government information, 7 people have been treated in Chattogram hospitals in the last one month. 

At least two deaths have been reported but the concerned people say that in reality this number is much higher. Because many people take treatment from home in addition to various private hospitals.

According to the Chittagong District Civil Surgeon's Office, 7 people have been treated for dengue in Chattogram hospitals in the last one month, while two have died. 

Nafiza Jahan, an HSC student of Dewanhat City Corporation College, died at Marine City Medical College Hospital after contracting dengue on 30 July.  

On the other hand, a housewife from Lalkhanbazar area died on 5 July while undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

According to the Chittagong District Civil Surgeon's Office, Aedes mosquito larva was found in Lalkhanbazar and Dewanhat areas of Chattogram city. 

Most of the people who are being admitted to the hospital due to dengue are also residents of these two areas.

A team of researchers from Chittagong University has identified 100% Aedes mosquito larva in 15 spots by collecting samples from 51 spots in 99 areas of Chittagong city and 57 spots including 6 spots in Chittagong University area.

In such a situation, Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) is starting a 30-day crash program from 3 August 3 to prevent dengue. In addition to the ongoing mosquito eradication activities at the ward level, a special team of 100 people will implement the program.

Contacted, Chittagong City Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said to Bangladesh Post that all preparations have been made to keep the manpower of the clean and health department of corporation active in implementing the urgent steps that need to be taken to prevent the spread of dengue.
