The contents as well as the title of the book, ‘Demythsifying Myths: Demystifying 18 Myths about India’ is arresting for anyone giving it a first read. This book was actually an eye opener for me, elucidating unknown facts and stories that were hidden to me due to my own ignorance.

If history and in turn the history of broader India is something you are interested in and is close to your heart, then you should definitely go for this book.

The book contains several explicit truths about our freedom fighters who are depicted as goldy and have been glorified and mystified in our history books. My thoughts regarding a few have definitely changes, thanks to this book. Among all the chapters, my favorite would be the accounts on Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi. I would urge the readers to give this book a read and get acquainted with the real picture of India's freedom struggle from 1857 until 15 August 1947.

The writing style is simple and conversational which is a plus point for those who love reading books in simple English. However, I felt that the author has played it safe with the writing style to be largely accepted to the masses.

The beauty of the book lies in the fact, that with every passing chapter you get a deja Vu feeling, when you read about the freedom fighters you have idolized all your life. Some of the accounts of incidents mentioned in the book have shocked me as well.

So, if you are interested in the topic per se, and you are looking for a book which is a simple yet shocking read, do give this book a try.

I have bought a kindle version of the book and I am very satisfied with the experience of carrying the book around with me in my device.
