Several hundred staff of Rajshahi Sugar Mills staged a demonstration in front of the Administration Building of the mills on Monday morning demanding repayment of four months' arrears salaries.
Labourers and employees of the Mills informed the lockdown is continuing elsewhere in the country due to Coronavirus situation but the authorities of RSM called the staff of the mills to join works without any health protection measure. As a result, they did not join the works.
Moreover, the staff of the mills were leading an inhuman life due to non-payment of their salaries for the last four months. As a result, the labourers and employees of the mills staged an hour-long demonstration in front of the mills demanding their salaries immediately.
Mujibur Rahman and Muntaz Ali, President and the General Secertary of RSM Shramik-Karmachari Union informed, the staff of the mills are leading an inhuman life without salary and allowances and the order of the mills' authorities to join works has dragged them to deep crisis which also made them tense and they staged demonstration without joining their job.
SM Selim, Managing Director of RSM informed, according to the directives of the higher authorities, the labourers and staff of the mills have been directed to join their job and conduct limited works by maintaining social distance.
He added some machinery of the mills require regular caring and without taking care, those machinery might be damaged. He further said, the staff of the mills were leading a hard life due to no clearance of their salaries for a long time. '
The higher authorities have been requested to take a step to repay the salaries of the staff and the RSM authority was trying to repay their salaries by selling sugar.
