Many belong to Jhinukmala Abashan Prokalpa, a government residential area for the poor and disadvantaged people in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila, demonstrated in front of UNO office on Tuesday.
They had demonstrated when the union parishad chairman of Paglakanai union did not distribute any relief materials among them. They also blocked Jhenaidah-Kusthia. They had withdrawn their agitation after Jhenaidah DC Saroj Kumar Nath distributed relief materials. Jhinukmala Abashan Prokalpa inmates said they are not receiving any relief materials.
To help them they had met the union parishad chairman KM Nazrul islam. But neither he did provided any relief, nor met them anyway since then. Finding no other alternative, they demonstrated in front of UNO office.
As the UNO could not take any necessary measures immediately, they sat on the road near Jheniidah Cadet College on Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway for about two hours. At last Saroj Kumar Nath rushed there and distributed relief materials.
Paglakanai union parishad KM Nazrul Islam when contacted said he had submit the list of the inmates of Jhinukmala Abashan Prokalpa and waiting to receive the same from the office of the UNO shortly.
Deputy Commissioner Saroj Kumar Nath when contacted said he was informed that the inmates of Jhinukmala Abashan Prokalpa had demonstrated against the chairman of Paglakanai union parishad KM Nazrul Islam in front of Jhenidah UNO demanding relief materials. They have enough relief materials to assist the poor and ailing people, deputy commissioner said.
