Demise of Aly Zaker: End of an era

Aly Zaker, a towering figure in theatre, television and film arena in Bangladesh has died. The legendary actor passed away at United Hospital in Dhaka at 6:40 am on Friday. He has left behind his innumerable deeds and creations.

He was born on 7 November 1944 in Ratanpur Union, Chattogram. In 1972, he made his acting debut in Munir Chowdhury's play 'Kabar' under the direction of Mamunur Rashid on behalf of Aranyak Natyadal. In June 1982, at the invitation of Ataur Rahman and Zia Haider, he joined the Nagorik Natya Sampradaya. In that group, he made his acting debut in the play 'Buro Shaliker Ghare Ron' directed by Ataur Rahman, which was first staged at the WAPDA auditorium.

Aly Zaker directed plays like “BakiItihash,” “Bidogdho Romonikul,” “ToiloSankat,” “Ei Nishiddho Pollite,” and “Ocholayoton,”.

At Nagorik Natya Sampraday, he acted in, “Dewan Gazir Kissa,” “Nurul Din-er SharaJibon,” “Macbeth,” and “Galileo”.

After that, this actor got huge popularity through TV dramas. Especially in most of Humayun Ahmed's dramas, his characters got skyrocketing popularity. He has also acted in films.

He got huge popularity by acting in Humayun Ahmed's 'Bahubrihi' and 'Aaj Rabibar'. His performances in the solo dramas 'Ekdin Hathat', 'Neetu Tomake Bhalobasi', 'Pathar Samay', 'Achinbrikkho', 'Ice Cream', 'Gani Miya Pathar' are widely discussed.

He has also acted in films. Her performances in 'Agami', 'Nadir Nam Madhumati', 'Lalsalu' and 'Rabeya' have left a mark on people's hearts.

In 1999, the Bangladesh government awarded him the Ekushey Padak, the country's second highest civilian honour, for his contribution to the arts. 

He has also won the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award, Bangabandhu Award, Munir Chowdhury Padak , Naren Biswas Padak and Meril-Prothom Alo Lifetime Achievement Award.

The day before a drama show, an actress suddenly fell ill and Sara Jaker was given the role. 

Ali Zaker took on the responsibility of preparing her for the character and Sara very quickly adapted herself to the character. 

Aly Zaker was fascinated by her talent. Later, Aly Zaker and Sara Zaker got married in 1977.
