The holy Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Bangladesh tomorrow. Everyone has already made preparations for this Eid of animal sacrifice. In the meantime, many have bought the sacrificial animal and many are waiting to buy it again. The purchase and repair of knives, machetes, cleavers and other tools centering on Eid-ul-Azha is almost over. Now the value of meat cutting wooden bark coasters has increased. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, the common people are buying wooden bark coasters from the market for the convenience of cutting meat.

The wood used for cutting meat is the round part of the tree log. In the local language it is called Khatiya. Butchers use this wooden log all year round. However, every year during the Eid-ul-Adha, these woods are valued differently. Locals are busy buying these wooden bark coasters for cutting the meat of sacrificial animals. The wood of tamarind tree is preferred for making wooden bark coasters. This is because this wood has a much higher ability to withstand the impact of knives than other woods. Khatiya traders are also busy ahead of Eid. They have set up temporary shops in several places in the city.

Earlier, these wooden bark coasters were sold more or less throughout the year. Now the sales increase only when Eid-ul-Azha comes. This time was no exception either. Mohsin Howlader, a wooden bark coaster trader told that they have been doing this business for generations. But the business is falling drastically. However, they enter this business before the Eid.

They also said that the wood of the tamarind tree is very hard and strong. Every year at this time he buys small wooden bark coasters of different sizes from different sawmills and moneylenders. Then he made them suitable for cutting meat and cut them to a certain size. The upper and lower parts of the logs are neatly cut and leveled. The traders added that these Khatiyas made of wood are sold for up to Tk 800 per piece. Several buyers including Khokon Ahmed, Md Ali Babu, SM Mizan, GM Jashim told that they have to be busy with animal sacrifices after Eid prayers. Then looking for things or taking from others becomes a lot of hassles. So they came to buy the things earlier.
