The Bangladesh Passengers Welfare Association demanded withdrawal of the 60pc increased bus fares before starting the movement of public transports.
It was demanded that the fare should go back to the normal amount and public transport to run following strict hygiene rules.
In a statement on Saturday, the organization's secretary general Mozammel Haque Chowdhury made this demand. He said that although public transport was introduced after the last two lockdowns, majority of them did not follow the hygiene rules.
Despite paying 60 pc increased fares, most of the public transports has carried passengers by bat. The government has not taken any visible actions even though it has collected 60 pc increased bus fares, carrying more passengers in almost all of the seats in public transport.
He further said that as a result of this increased fare, the unemployed and incomeless people lost their way in the Covid-19 crisis and became a death knell for the common people. In such critical situations, if no decision is taken regarding the management and running of the public transports, Covid infections will also increase, because with the increase in bus fare, the cost of all classes of public transports will increase.
He added that in most cases the driver and helper could not comply with the hygiene rules due to the management of public vehicles handled by just two people, because the driver is busy driving the car and the helper is busy collecting the fare, it has become necessary to give the responsibility to the third person to make the passengers follow the hygiene rules.
He also requested the army to take over the responsibility of implementing hygiene rules in public transports considering the national disaster.
