There are widespread allegations of irregularities, corruption and mismanagement on the academic governing body which is disrupting academic activities in the private colleges of the country. The stakeholders have expressed their views in favor of reforming the governing body structure to enhance the quality of college education.

A case has recently been filed against the president of the governing body of a college in Mirzapur, Tangail. Not only the president himself, but his son also made unwanted interference in various activities of the school and college. Later, his son was recently arrested for allegedly raping a female student. Teachers and students of the institute have demanded the dismissal of the president.

An elected parliament member had become the president of a college in the capital Rupnagar, Mirpur. But due to legal obligations, he had to step down as president. Later, the local ward commissioner Awami League became the nominee of the MP. The president of this college has been alleged with various local market occupations.

Their main ambition is to earn money through corruption. Due to their activities, the quality of education of the institution is now said to be declining. Such is the image of the governing body of most colleges in the country. However, there are exceptions, of course. There is also a Member of Parliament who nominates honest and capable people in the position of presidents of colleges in his constituency. those colleges are doing well, at least academically.

Earlier, local parliamentarians could have been the president of the governing body of four educational institutions of their choice. But the court ruled that the no Member of Parliament will interfere in educational institutions. Although the parliamentarians have been forced to leave, the educational institutions are now operating at different levels of the Thana-ward follower of parliament members. As a result, those who have the opportunity of contributing to the development of the educational institutions are not getting the opportunity.

Even with direct directives of the court in many cases presidents are elected without election. In this case, Awami League leaders of the thana and ward levels are gaining prominence. Aminul Islam, a teacher, says that the members of parliament had no objection to their nominees being nominated as presidents.

However, for the most part, nominations are given to goons or illiterate people. In addition to the governing body, education enthusiast’s members were also nominated to the nominee of the parliament, he added. Like the president, ineffective and dishonest people are joining in this position. The teachers also demanded nominations from the parents of the enthusiast’s members. Many principals and head teachers said the members of parliament are well-respected people in the area.

When the request was made to them for the development of the educational institute, they would pay some of the value of the word, which would best help them in executing any work. But after they leave, there is not much opportunity for advice from those who are now presiding. And they don't even want to listen to teachers. They are doing what they know best.

Although the governing body has an obligation to carry out its 16 duties, most of the work is currently done by the government. As a result, irregularities are done with whatever task left. The bureaucrats, vice-presidents and staff members took bribe of various numbers to appoint the college. The fake bill vouchers embrace college fund money.

There are several allegations such as, appointing temporary or part-time teachers and employees in exchange for money. Somewhere the students conceal the money realised in the name of development. Although the education boards took initiatives to include graduation holder and give the governing body's presidency, the initiative was disrupted in the face of objections from the concerned sections.

Dr Jasim Uddin, a teacher, said , the rules and regulations of the current rules have to be changed. Election of the president through the election, nothing but qualified people can come to this committee. The election must be free of party influence, he added. Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain said, various questions were raised on the quality of the governing body. We are also looking into the matter. In the light of the role that the governing body plays in improving the quality of education in the college, initiatives for making regulations are continuing.
