Deliberate blow to our friendship

BP Special

The recent attack on some Chinese staff members at a power plant at Patuakhali’s Kalapara Upazila that left one Chinese national dead and many injured points fingers at some vested quarters that are trying to stigmatize the nation’s good name and traditions and damage the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and China.

This is most unacceptable that some hooligans will launch an attack on our guests who are here on our invitation. Bangladesh has the tradition of hosting guests in the house with great care and respect. We can never think of harming our guests, so we fail to understand why and who would instigate such bloody attack on the Chinese guests in our country.

Political analysts do not want to believe that it was a case of instant scuffle. They smell a much deeper conspiracy hatched by some anti-government and anti-state elements in a bid to damage the friendly relations between Bangladesh and China and to halt the country’s ongoing development pace. The incident is also looked at as an attempt by the vested quarters to endanger government’s steps towards inviting foreign investment and development partners.

The FDI flow rate has already gone up in recent years, and China remains one of the leading countries in this regard. Though some elements tried their best to tarnish the image of Bangladesh through launching the barbaric attack on foreigners at Holey Artisan Bakery in 2017 and fuelling students’ movements for safe road in 2018, the government effectively handled both the situations with the application of accurate information and wisdom.

The enemies of Bangladesh believe that Bangladesh would suffer if its development partners can be harmed in any way. That is why they try to attack them wherever they can. But, the government has also proved again and again that no such cowardly act would be able to deter its forward march on the highway to progress. Since 2017, more and more foreigners are coming to Bangladesh with various projects. They are highly appreciative of the warm and friendly nature of the Bangladeshi people.
