The Department of English and Humanities (DEH) of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised two talks on Thursday as part of its Summer Seminar Series.

The first talk was given Nazia Manzoor, senior lecturer in the Department of English and Modern Languages, North South University, who is currently pursuing her doctoral studies at SUNY, Albany. The talk, entitled “Sympathy, Kinship, Humanity – The Making of a Political Subject,” was part of her doctoral thesis which examines the conceptual and theoretical role of race in the construction of the human as a political subject.

Professor Fakrul Alam introduced the speaker to the audience comprising faculty members of DEH, students, and guests. The second part of the day featured Dilruba Z Ara, a Swedish-Bangladeshi author, known for her novels such as Blame. Budding writers among the students and faculty members also gained insight about the writing process and choosing subjects or ideas.

The talks ended with remarks from Professor Shamsad Mortuza, the pro VC of ULAB and the Head of DEH.
