Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said the Chittagong Port Authority has assured that necessary steps will be taken on an urgent basis after analyzing the engineering and technical aspects so as not to disrupt the flow of water through the Sluice Gate constructed by the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA).

It is hoped that the construction of protective walls by the port authorities in the proposed Bay Terminal project area will alleviate the fear of water retention in the area and the effectiveness of the Sluice Gate constructed at the square will remain high.

He made the remarks while inspecting the construction site as the Chittagong Port Authority provided protection at the proposed Bay Terminal at coastal Kattalion on Wednesday.

The mayor informed the Chittagong port authorities about the matter and urged them to take necessary steps.  Addressing the Chittagong Port Authority, Chittagong Development Authority and local people's representatives in charge of the project, the CCC mayor said the implementation of the proposed Bay Terminal is a matter of life and death not only in Chittagong but in the entire country.

In response to this demand, the Prime Minister has ensured all kinds of assistance, technical, engineering support and necessary allocation for the implementation of the project.  We want this project to be implemented quickly and this will pave the way for greater economic prosperity of the country.

However, the project implementation process should be continued in such a way that no new problems and sufferings are created.

Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said that the district administration has evicted a large number of government demesne lands on the left side of North Kattali Link Road by evicting them.  The CCC is in the process of sending a project proposal to the Ministry of Local Government to build a memorial and an ocean park here to protect all these governmentdemesne lands.

North Kattali Ward Councilor Prof. Dr. Nisar Uddin Ahmed Monju, Mayor's Private Secretary Muhammad Abul Hashem and other local personalities were present at the occasion.
