The deep depression over southern Bay of Bengal is gradually moving northeastwards from near Indian state of Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a special weather forecast on Monday that the depression is likely to move north-northeastwards and intensify further.

It also said that the deep depression is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the next 12 hours. It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross the Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around October 25 evening as a deep depression.

BMD said that at around 3:30 pm on Monday the deep depression was located about 636 km west-southwest of Chittagong port and 605 km southwest of Mongla port.

Meanwhile, the administration in Tekhnaf has asked all tourists to leave St Martin's Island by Monday afternoon due to rough weather caused by a depression over the Bay of Bengal.

The Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Teknaf said that the visitors in St Martin's Island have been asked to leave the island by 2:30pm on Monday and reach the mainland for their safety.

In the meantime, the local administration has imposed a restriction on movement of all kinds of sea-going boats on the Teknaf-St Martin's, St Martin's-Cox's Bazar and St Martin's-Chattogram routes from Tuesday.

Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number 3 as the deep depression over west-central Bay and adjoining area moved slightly north-northeastwards and lies in the same area.

All fishing boats have been advised to stay close to the coast while closely monitoring the progress of the deep depression.

Meanwhile, under the influence of the depression in the Bay, it rained in most places across the country, including heavy rainfall experienced in the city.
