Pakistani horror thriller Deemak has brought international pride to the country by winning the Best Editing award at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Film Festival 2025, held in Chongqing, China.
Directed by Rafay Rashdi and produced by Geo Films, Deemak was among two Pakistani films honoured at the prestigious festival, alongside Nayab. This recognition marks another proud moment for Pakistan’s growing film industry.
The film’s director Rafay Rashdi and lead actress Sonya Hussyn received the award at the ceremony. Sharing the news on social media, Rashdi called it a “historic win for Pakistani cinema on an international stage” and thanked the SCO, the Ministry of Information, and all supporters of the project. Sonya Hussyn also expressed her joy, saying, “Our film Deemak brings home an award at the prestigious festival,” calling it a proud moment for the entire nation.
Released nationwide on Eid-ul-Adha, Deemak quickly became a box office hit, earning Rs70 million in just two days. Audiences praised its gripping story, high-quality production, and emotional depth. The film explores horror, folklore, and complicated family relationships, offering viewers a unique blend of fear and social drama.
The screenplay was written by Syed Murad Ali, Rafay Rashdi, and Ayesha Muzaffar. The film stars Sonya Hussyn, Samina Peerzada, Faysal Quraishi, Javed Sheikh, and Bushra Ansari.
