Decision to keep Rajshahi markets closed

Despite the government's decision to reopen shops and markets for a limited time maintaining social distance in the country, Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Member of Parliament of Rajshahi sadar constituency Fazley Hossain Badsha have opined, considering the overall situation, markets and shops in the city and district should be kept under further shutdown. 

Both RCC Mayor and the MP talked with Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Hamidul Haque on Saturday night and earlier they also talked with the leaders of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 

All of them opined for keeping the shops and markets of the city and the district closed. Later the Mayor and the MP decided to keep the markets and shops close till to the Eidul fitre to check further spread of Coronavirus. 

Fazley Hossain Badsha in this connection informed, Rajshahi city is still free from the grip of Coronavirus but from free from the risk of infection. There was alternative to lockdown to keep the city and its people safe and so to keep all shopping malls, shops and markets of the city and the district closed. 

He added, if the markets are opened before the Eid, many customers from Corona infected areas will rush for shopping and it will be extremely hard to tackle the situation. 

That is why he along with the Mayor of Rajshahi and the district administration was favouring to keep the markets closed. Even chamber leaders of Rajshahi have expressed the same opinion. He said, the decision has been informed to Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque.
