Debut of Geetikobi Shongho

No organization of any levels had yet been formed in the music scene of Bangladesh. There is a long shadow of despair among the song creators. There is no one to talk about their rights, there is no platform. The lyricists of all levels of the country have formed an alliance ignoring the current coronavirus epidemic in order to overcome it. After several meetings on the internet, an organization called ‘Gitikobi Shondho, Bangladesh’ was formed.

An online meeting on Friday (July 24) at 3 pm finalized the article of memorandum and name of the organization, formed a coordination committee and decided what to do next. Old and young lyricists of the country were present at this time.

The name of Shaheed Mahmud Jangi was announced at the meeting as the head of the coordination committee of ‘Gitikobi Shongho, Bangladesh’. It was informed that the members of the coordination committee under his leadership will present a selected committee through quick election.

The members of the election coordination committee are Liton Adhikari Rintu, Salauddin Sajal, Hasan Matiur Rahman, Golam Morshed, Asif Iqbal, Kabir Bakul, Zulfiqar Russell, Pritam Ahmed, Zahid Akbar, Joy Shahriar and Someshwar Oli. Earlier, these members were involved in drafting the article of memorandum under the leadership of Shahidullah Farazi.

Shahid Mahmud Jangi, head of the coordination committee of ‘Geetikobi Shongho, Bangladesh’, said, “This creative organization will work keeping in view the demands of moral and financial rights of lyricists. We believe that it will become the main platform for all lyricists in the country. We will hand over the responsibility to a competent leadership through an election soon. They will run the organization in a proper manner.”

The first meeting of ‘Gitikobi Shongho, Bangladesh’ was held on July 3 under the coordination and conduct of Zulfiqar Russell. Then in two more meetings the article of memorandum and name were finalized on the basis of the opinions of more than fifty lyricists. Senior lyricists Gazi Mazharul Anwar, Mohammad Rafiquzzaman, Kazi Rozi, Khoshnoor and many other veteran lyricists have sent messages to the meeting expressing their support for the organization.

Also present at the meetings were Moniruzzaman Monir, Munshi Wadud, Zahidul Haque, Syed Ashiq Mahmud, Nasir Ahmed, Shahidullah Farazi, Naqib Khan, Maksudul Haque, Enamul Karim Nirjhar, Sejan Mahmud, Haider Hossain, Prince Mahmud, Latiful Islam, Khurshid, Ahmed Rizvi, Jahangir Haider, Ashraf Farooq, Sheikh Ali Ashraf, Sohail Arman, Tanvir Tarek, Shafiq Tuhin, Niaz Ahmed Anshu, Tarun Munshi, Bakiul Alam, Russell O’Neill, Sheikh Rana, Rashed Uddin Ahmed Topu, Lutfar Hasan, Reza Karim Limon, Mahmud Manzoor, Johnny Haque, SA Haque Alik, Shahan Kabandh, Nihar Ahmed, Rabiul Islam Jibon, A Mizan, Saki Ahmed, Khayyam Sanu Sandhi, Omar Farooq Bishal, Abdar Rahman, Prosenjit Ojha, Varna Chakraborty, Sirajum Munir, Faisal Rabbikin, Sushmita Biswas Sathy, Tareq Anand, Mehedi Hasan Limon, Wasik Saikat, Apan Ahsan, Masud Ahmed, Adhara Jahan, Mahi Flora and others.

Work has started to recruit members of ‘Gitikobi Shongho, Bangladesh’. Interested lyricists can collect membership by emailing [email protected] or by contacting the members of the Coordinating Committee. However, in order to get membership, the number of songs released by the lyricist must be at least 25.
