Demonstrations and human chains were held demanding the death penalty as the only punishment for violation in front of Noakhali Press Club at 12 pm on Sunday. An organization of teenagers, youths and students called ‘Protest for Her' organized the programmes.
Speakers at the rally complained that the culture of impunity is going on in the country as the rapists are getting away with the shelter of the powerful people and the loopholes in the law.
A six-point demand was presented at the rally, including making death penalty the only punishment for rape. Earlier, teenagers and students staged demonstrations on various roads in the district town. Besides, various social, cultural and professional organizations also organized anti-torture processions, rallies and human chains in different places of the district.
