The three-day annual conference of the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) ended on Thursday with a fresh pledge to develop a culture of maximum transparency and accountability in the country’s field level administration. We hope they will give their best to ensure the country’s overall development and hassle-free government services at all levels.

In the three-day conference, President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ministers, Chief of Army Staff and Secretaries gave various directives to the Deputy Commissioners, calling upon them to work together on basic issues at grassroots level right now. Therefore, they must give priority to the country’s largest part of the people living in the rural area and devote themselves (deputy commissioners) to fulfil people’s expectations. In this regard, superintendent of police, civil engineers, civil surgeons, university vice-chancellors and college principals and others concerned will have to extend all out cooperation to the deputy commissioners.

We hope they will give their best to

ensure  hassle-free government

services at all levels

Besides, people’s representatives like local lawmakers, municipality or city corporation mayors, upazila chairmen, union parishad chairmen and councillors must cooperate with the local administration and work together.

Deputy commissioners should work together to eliminate terrorism, corruption and militancy from the country’s rural area. Also, they must ensure implementation of the directives given by the government at different times to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Deputy commissioners will also work to ensure implementation and continuation of the development and service-oriented programmes taken for the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Mujib Borsho. Therefore, deputy commissioner must discharge their duties with the mindset of serving people with integrity. They have to make sure that the common man are not harassed in getting public services at grassroots level.

As deputy commissioners act as the coordinator and supervisor of the various government activities at field level, they must play a crucial role in the country’s development as a whole. They should discharge their duties as people’s servants to ensure the delivery of the government services at people’s doorsteps.
