The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has urged the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to ensure that compliant businesses are not subjected to unnecessary harassment during its drive to strengthen monitoring and verification of taxes deducted at source.

In a press release issued on Monday, the DCCI welcomed the NBR's initiative to improve deduction, deposit, monitoring and verification of source tax under the Income Tax Act, saying effective implementation would help increase revenue collection and broaden the country's tax base.

At the same time, the chamber expressed concern that businesses already complying with tax regulations should not face undue difficulties during enforcement.

It also called on the NBR to provide businesses that have yet to achieve full compliance with adequate time and opportunity to regularise their tax affairs.

The DCCI stressed that wider use of automation and digital technologies in revenue administration is essential for achieving the government's revenue collection targets while expanding the tax net and reducing unnecessary burdens on the private sector.

The chamber said revenue mobilisation and maintaining a business-friendly environment are complementary objectives that can be achieved simultaneously.

It also emphasised the need for continued constructive dialogue between the NBR and the business community, alongside joint efforts by the government and private sector to strengthen discipline and transparency in tax administration.
