Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has contradicted a news item printed on Page-1 of June 24, 2021 issue of the Bangladesh Post. The Rejoinder is as follows:
Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), since its inception in 1958, has been raising its proactive voice for the development of the private sector in the country. DCCI is the largest CMSME-led Chamber in the country conducts fact-based researches and analyses to update the relevant private and public sector agencies and stakeholders on wide-ranging avenues of economy including policy reforms on simplification of doing business environment, cross-border trade and investment for continuous development of business ecosystem of Bangladesh, monetary policy and national budget over the last 6 decades.
First of all, we would like to extend our heart-felt gratitude that in almost every endeavor of DCCI, we have got very good coverage in your esteemed daily. We are grateful to you for considering DCCI as a vibrant voice of the private sector.
However, I would like to draw your kind attention to a report titled “Govt plans to legalise black money investment with penalty” that has been published on the first page of your Daily on Thursday, 24th June, 2021. In the last two paragraphs, we have noticed comments/references of MrRizwan Rahman, President, DCCI were used. The comments are extracted below as it is:
[Quote ]“It is a very good initiative to allow black money investment by imposing a penalty,” said Rizwan Rahman, president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).
“However, the amount of penalty is too low and not acceptable. The government should make a reasonable difference between the regular tax rate and the untaxed money legalizing penalty,” he added.
[Unquote] "Regarding these references, we would like to mention that
DCCI always stands against the scope of whitening black money as the facility creates discrimination between the ethical and unethical businesses. The option is discouraging the regular tax payers which is not good for the economy".
Even before the budget FY2021-22 was announced in the parliament, DCCI President Rizwan Rahman in different platforms has been expressing the same opinion of not allowing whitening black money and continuously discourages this scope. Therefore, the comments published in your newspaper did not reflect the actual opinion of the DCCI President. Even, the comments used in the report were not also taken from Mr. Rizwan Rahman personally.
