The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) organized a day-long workshop on “Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act-2012” at DCCI auditorium in the city on Monday.

DCCI President Osama Taseer, Senior Vice President Waqar Ahmad Choudhury and Vice President Imran Ahmed were present during the workshop, said a press release.

Around 200 participants from different business houses took part in this workshop.

NBR Second Secretary Md Tariq Hassan, Convenor of the DCCI’s Standing Committee on Custom VAT, Taxation M Shafiqul Alam and DCCI Tax Consultant Snehasish Barua made their respective presentations on the new VAT Act 2012.

In his speech, Osama Taseer said the workshop has been organized to make the business entities aware of the new features of the VAT Act 2012. “The NBR targeted to collect Taka 1,23,067 crore from VAT in 2019-20 fiscal.

As the VAT Act 2012 replaced the older one, the new act accommodates quite a few new features on it and we need to be familiar with these procedures,” he added.

He urged the participants to point out clauses or rules, if any, which do not go with the business friendly environment.
