DB unearths Rupee faking factory

Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested nine members of an international gang of manufacturing fake Indian currencies.

Talking to the Bangladesh Post, Deputy Commissioner DC (DB- Gulshan) Moshiur Rahman confirmed it.

He said the gang was also making other fake currencies including fake notes of Bangladesh.

According the top brass DB officer, these gangs had become very desperate in making fake currencies ahead of the upcoming thirty first night and new year.

Getting secret information, a team of DB led by Joint Commissioner Mahbub Alam raided Jorain area on Wednesday night.

During the raid, the DB personnel arrested Jakir Hossain, JhahangirAlam,Badal Khan, Maleqe Farazi, Jashim Uddin and Shihab.

“DB team seized fake currencies of more than 40 lakh, including of fake Rupee of 20 lakh. After unearthing fake currency factory, we seized various equipment and chemicals which were being used in producing fake currencies”, said DC Moshiur.

Using these, fake notes of more than 40 crore would be manufactured, he claimed. There were also fake Rupees of 500.

Members of the gang were manufacturing fake notes at their secret dens in Bagerhat, Chapainababganj, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and different parts of the capital Dhaka. As the demand of fake notes was increasing ahead of the upcoming thirty first night and new year, they have started manufacturing fake notes after renting a flat in city’s Shyampur area recently. Arrested were accused in different criminal cases. But after getting bail, they again involved in making fake notes as it was very profitable. According to the DB officer, Jakir and his wife along with his another associates were arrested last year while making fake notes at his sophisticated fake currency factory in Demra area in the capital.

Jakir finishes the fake notes and he has vast experience in making fake notes.  Obaidul and Jahim used to work with the special paper, security rope of the fake notes.  Badal worked as dealer in different districts including Dhaka, Savar and Gazipur. Jamal was the main dealer in greater Barishal region.

The fake currency racket has strong distribution networks through which they were distributing and marketing fake notes at different open markets and shopping malls.

A case was filed against them in this regard.

DC Moshiur said, “We shall continue our drives to demolish other fake notes factories if available.”

Responding to another question, he said, after grilling the arrested, they will be able to know others involved in the racket.
