DB nabs Juba Dal leader Boma Maulana

Detective Branch (DB) of police on Monday arrested Juba Dal leader Md Mukith, the mastermind of the November 20 bomb attack on the premises of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court. 

Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Harun or Rashid disclosed the information at a press conference on Tuesday. 

“Mukith alias Boma Maulana is the mastermind behind the attack. Many bomb-making materials were seized from his possession,” the DMP chief said. 

On November 20, BNP-Jamaat cadres exploded a crude bomb on the premises of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court in the capital’s Old Dhaka area.

The blast took place on the court premises around 4:00pm during the bail hearing in a case against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

According to DB, the arrested Boma Maulana collected huge amount of gunpowder from different sources and made at least 400 bombs from October 27 to December 16. 

Later, he supplied these bombs to different areas of the capital Dhaka. Jubo Dal president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku supplied Boma Mukith with gunpowder to make bombs. 

The BNP high command rewards the BNP activists who carry out  vandalism or arson attack and send pictures of these attacks to London.

DB said one of the bombs supplied by Boma Maulana was exploded on the premises of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on November 20.

DB chief said, “We had been on the hunt for Boma Mukith for a long time. He (Boma Mukith) was once 

the president of Aliya Madrasa unit of JCD.

Later, he was elected joint general secretary of JCD’s Dhaka South unit. In 2013, his right wrist was blown off while making a bomb. Since then he has been popularly known as Boma Maulana.

BNP acting chairman Tareque Rahman nominated Boma Maulana for joint convener of Juba Dal Dhaka South in July 2023 for loyalty to the party and terrorist activities. 

Boma Maulana supplied crude bombs to Juba Dal leaders Sohail Khan and Avi Azad Chowdhury. Later, BNP cadre Abdul Hamid Bhuiyan and his wife Hafsa Akhtar exploded he bombs on the court premises.

During the primary interrogation, Boma Maulana admitted that BNP pays an  arsonist Tk 10,000 for setting fire to a vehicle, while Tk  5,000 for bomb explosion.

The DB chief also claimed that they have got many names of those who make bombs and are involved in arson attacks on buses and trains.

Boma Maulana formed eight teams to carry out destructive activities in a bid to crate panic among the people as per  instructions from London.

He had been assigned to coordinate the Jubo Dal and JCD caders in the capital in carrying out arson attacks.

Apart from this, he himself was involved in at least six arson attacks in different places in the capital. 

Bomb Maulana would gave training to BNP activists on carrying out arson attacks and making bombs.
