DB arrest 6 members of inter-dist bus robbery gang

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested six alleged robbers from city’s suburb Savar on Friday night.

DB’s  Gulshan division  also seized sharp weapons from their possessions.

DB Chief Harun or Rashid disclosed this information at a press conference at DMP Media Centre in the capital on Saturday.

RifatShamim, Deputy Commissioner of DB (Gulshan Division) said the arrested robbers used to hold passengers hostage after getting into bus in guise of passengers. Later, they pick up passengers introducing themselves as helper of the bus. At one stage, they robbed all belongings from the passengers. 

The arrested robbers were identified as MdFakrulKabirShanto, 29, MdMonir Hossain, 30, Md Imran 22, MdMojahid alias Babu,28, MdRajb alias Asif,21 and MdSuny, 26.

According to the DB’s Gulshan division   chief, on February 12, a Gazipur-bound bus arrived Shibbari of Gazipur from Khulna. Later, the bus went to Nabinagar for next trip.  As the bus failed to manage adequate number of passengers, the driver parked the bus near the Parbat Cinema Hall under Darus Salam Police Station in the capital. 

Helper and driver of the bus were sleeping after locking the door from inside. At around 12:30 am, a group of armed robbers forcibly entered into the bus. The robber gang asked the staff of the bus why they parked the bus on the road. At one stage, they snatched all the valuables from the transport staff. They tied the helper and driver on the backside of the bus after beating them. Then they took control of the bus and started driving the bus in different areas of the city andSavar. 

They picked up many passengers and also robbed off their valuables.  They left the bus at Kabirpur of Savar at around 6:30 am. Getting complaint, DB started shadow investigation into the incident and arrested the six robbers from different places of Savar.

During the primary interrogation, the arrested robbers admitted that they were members of inter- district robbers group were accused in several bus robbery cases in different police stations of the country, said DC RifatShamim.
