A huge sensation has been created at the court premises of Cumilla following an incident of serving of jail by a day-labourer instead of a drug peddler in exchange of money.
It is learnt the actual accused of the case Anowar Hossain (35) son of late Toyeb Ali of Ganganagar area under Brahmanpara upazila of Comilla remained absconding for a long time. Recently, he (Anowar) managed day labourer Hanif Mia son of late Monu Mia of Boro Hangini village under Borua upazila to serve jail instead of him in exchange of money.
As a result, identifying himself as fugitive accused Anowar, Hanif Mia surrendered to the court and the court also sent Hanif Mia to jail by being convinced by the statement of Hanif Mia as of fugitive Anowar. However, local people informed the incident to the court through the Public Prosecutor of the court.
It is learnt, Anowar Hossain is an infamous drug peddler in the region having a huge drug network syndicate in Brahmanpara frontier areas. He used to traffic drugs from India using various devices. He is accused in eight drug peddling cases. He is also a top enlisted drug trader under the Ministry of Home. Police were, however, searching Anowar in several warrants of arrest.
According to sources, on July-8, Hanif made day labourer Hanif Mia agree to surrender instead of him in the court in a drug case filed with Kotowali police station as against a handsome of money and Taka 50,000 allowance per month for the family members of Hanif.
The court sent Hanif Mia to jail. By this time, the case was transferred to the Judge's court from the lower court and several bail petitions were also moved to release him after one month of his detention.
The day for hearing the case was fixed on Monday. Just before starting of the hearing of the case, the government pleader came to learn that the infamous drug peddler Hanif enlisted with the Ministry of Home is rather moving freely in the area while the fake accused was serving the jail.
The court was adjourned following the incident was communicated to the concerned court authorities. The incident has created sensation at the court premises.
Plaintiff of the case SI Nandan Chandra Sarker said, Anowar Hossain is a fugitive accused in a drug case filed against him with Kotwali Police station on July-13,2019.
Public Prosecutor Zahirl Islam Selim informed, on July-8 last, an accused drug peddler named Anowar surrendered at the court and he was sent to jail. On Monday he came to learn that sentenced person naming Anowar is not the drug peddler Anowar rather Hanif son of late Monu Mia of Boro Hangini village of Boruara upazila surrendered in the court instead of Anowar. Bey being informed, he apprised the court and the court then sent the case to the Sadar court and the pleader for the defendant did not show up to attend the hearing of the case.
